09. Introduction to SCADA for Operators
About Course
This module provides operators with a foundational understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and their role in modern oil and gas operations. Participants will be introduced to the basic components of SCADA, including screens, tags, and alarms, and how these elements work together to monitor and control field equipment. The training explains how operator actions in the field—such as opening valves, adjusting pumps, or responding to exceptions—are captured and displayed within SCADA platforms like Ignition and other Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs). By learning how to interpret screens and navigate tags, operators gain the ability to track real-time performance, identify anomalies, and respond to alarms with confidence. The module emphasizes the importance of situational awareness, showing how SCADA systems serve as the digital bridge between field activity and centralized operations. Ultimately, this introduction equips operators with the skills to use SCADA effectively as both a monitoring tool and a decision-support system, ensuring safe, efficient, and coordinated pad operations.
